Islandia, Long Island

Islandia is a village located in Suffolk County, Long Island, New York. It is in the northern part of the Town of Islip. The village provides road maintenance and garbage collection services, which is served by the Central Islip post office and three fire districts. As of the 2000 census, there were 3,057 people, 1,007 households, and 753 families residing in the area. The median income for a household in the village was $69,519, and the median income for a family was $69,615. Males had a median income of $46,083 and only $34,261 for females. The latitude of Islandia is 40.804N. The longitude is -73.169W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 66 feet.

The Village of Islandia was founded 20 years ago which composed of quiet neighborhoods, with more than 275 acres of Suffolk County Greenbelt and a flourishing business community. As of early 2007, Islandia is considered a very safe to live with only one registered sex offender in accordance of the famous researchers in New York. The ratio of number of residents in Islandia to the number of sex offenders is 3119 to 1. The number of registered sex offenders compared to the number of residents in this village is smaller than the state average. The local government has a mission to open the lines of communication between the community and the administration. In fact, they are trying their best to get residents more active in helping Islandia become more progressive village.

The racial make-up of Islandia comprises of 73.63% White, 12.30% African American, 0.13% Native American, 6.05% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.94% from other races, and 2.91% from two or more races. Most of its resident’s ancestries were Italian, Black American, Irish, German, Puerto Rican, and Polish. The Andrew T Morrow School is a public school in Islandia that runs from Grades 1 to 6. It has a total of 556 students which offers quality education and fine education system. About 25% of the people have college degrees and unemployment is just around 2%. The MacArthur Airport makes Islandia an ideal transit point for travelers.
