 Moriches is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Suffolk County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. It is in the southeast section of the Town of Brookhaven. Moriches county seat is Riverhead. The neighborhood has a total area of 2.2 square miles, of which 2.0 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square miles of it is water. Moriches is bordered on the north by the hamlet of Manorville, on the east by the hamlet of Center Moriches, and on the south and west by the hamlet of Mastic. As of the 2000 census, there were 2,319 people, 1,116 households, and 669 families residing in the CDP. The median income for a household in the CDP was $63,672, and the median income for a family was $74,659. Males had a median income of $51,205 and only $35,950 for females. The neighborhood was originally taking its name from a local Indian. It is known for the Long Island ducks raised here.
