North Bellmore, Long Island

North Bellmore is a hamlet and census-designated place located in Nassau County, on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. "The Bellmores" are subdivided into Bellmore and North Bellmore which is also some residents call the area south of Merrick Road (or sometimes Sunrise Highway) 'South Bellmore'. As of the 2000 census, there were 20,079 people, 6,555 households, and 5,407 families residing in the CDP. The median income for a household in the CDP was $72,325, and the median income for a family was $80,067. Males had a median income of $55,384 and only $38,079 for females. The latitude of North Bellmore is 40.691N. The longitude is -73.533W. It is in the Eastern Standard time zone. Elevation is 46 feet.

In the 17th century, the Dutch and the English settled the area which they were responsible in making a small piece of Nassau territory into an agricultural community. The neighborhood name has changed over the centuries until North Bellmore stuck as a name coined for the Post Office as late as in the 1920s. The former and merged names of North Bellmore include Smithville. About 61% of adults here are married. A large portion of people in North Bellmore are married. At the risk of over-generalizing, everyone could say that the town tends toward large families and full houses. All North Bellmore students go to Grand Avenue along with a few North Merrick students who attended Park Avenue Elementary School, and then they split and go to their zoned school in the Central High School District. North Bellmore has its own public library which is operated by the Nassau Library System that includes talking books for people with disabilities. More than 50 libraries subscribe to this common service. The North Bellmore Library is a generous and effective education and learning resource for town residents of all age groups. There are also several attractions including Sportsplex, the East Bay Park, and the Newbridge Road Park that offers sports and recreation facilities in town. Gunther Field is used for Baseball.
