Poquott is an incorporated village located in Suffolk County, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. It is within the Town of Brookhaven. The neighborhood has a total area of 0.6 square miles of it is land and 0.2 square miles of it is water. As of the 2000 census, there were 975 people, 350 households, and 262 families residing in the area. The median income for a household in the village was $99,309, and the median income for a family was $116,379. It only had a population growth of -0.51 percent. The neighborhood derives its name from Indian term for “cleared land”. Unfortunately, most residents in Poquott are not financially stable. The village is below middle class and does not have a large underclass. Compared to the rest of the country, Poquott's cost of living is 69.66% slightly higher than the United States average. There public schools spend a total of $11,462 per student. The average school expenditure in the United States is $6,058. There are about 15 students per teacher in Poquott. The residents are tending to be educated, and a lot of them are college graduates. As it happens, more people than usual in Poquott are able to work from their homes. The Cathedral County Pines Park is a 320 acre site situated along the headwaters of the Carmans River. Adjacent of it is the Prosser Pines Nature Preserve, which features a majestic stand of white pines planted in 1812. Prosser Pines is a popular site for hikers and photographers. Aside from the attractions here, Poquott has also many famous restaurants, great hotels, inns and bed & breakfasts which includes Danfords, Z Pita, Sarku Japan, Gyro Palace Cafe, Mama's Italian Restaurant, Tommy's and Good Steer.
