SETAUKET, LONG ISLAND

A charming suburb

Setauket has come a long way since its 17th century transfer to Europeans from the original Natives after whom it remains named to this day. Though it has a rich tradition of ship building, pianos, rubber products and some farming as well, it has become primarily a much sought-after residential suburb in the recent past. It derives much value from environmental conservation and careful restoration of structures built during Colonial times and shortly after Independence. It therefore has tremendous potential as a resort for discerning tourists. Setauket has a prized place in American history, having been a key source of intelligence inputs for George Washington during the war. It also has a record of active governance in the affairs of Brookhaven and was its capital for a long time.

The transformation from manufacturing to suburban residence has been engineered through perseverance with building strong foundations for education in the town. The Arrowhead and Nassakeag Elementary Schools and the Paul J. Gelinas Junior High School provide quality educational facilities in Setauket. The Emma S. Clark Memorial Library is an important institution in Setauket. It is named after a relative of Thomas Hodgkins, a generous philanthropist from the town. It has served the Setauket people since 1891. It has had a strong Internet presence for about the last decade and has built an inventory of over 200 thousand materials. Setauket has an enviable tradition of scholastic dedication and families who choose to live here can enjoy an atmosphere that lends itself to learning for young and old alike.

Setauket's natural serenity lends itself to a sublime quality of life. The religious traditions of the town contribute to the superior lifestyle that residents can enjoy, in no small manner. The Caroline Church of Brookhaven offers Episcopal Worship and related support in the areas of Bible study, Family Consultation and School Forums. It has served followers since 1723 and is geared to shape family values and to provide invaluable bulwarks against the stresses of modern living, to those who seek its divine shelter.

Community support and activity is not restricted to spiritual life in Setauket. The Chamber of Commerce, the Three Village Kiwanis and the Society for Preservation of Long Island Antiquities are all present and active in town. These organizations make valuable contributions to individual family life in Setauket and provide broad platforms for those with ideas and wishes to serve fellow citizens. The local Fire Rescue Service invests considerable time and effort to make people aware of fire prevention practices and imparts training to build an impressive cadre of volunteers. The Setauket Neighborhood House is a thoughtful public facility where people can conduct or participate in functions and events amidst scenic surroundings.

The Setauket Mill Pond and Melville Park has an enormous collection of flora and its quiet surroundings bring peace to the minds of all who venture in to its verdant and vast grounds and trails. This jewel could attract many tourists quite apart from the delight it offers permanent residents. Fishing is another pleasure with pleasant prospects in Setauket. The State Department of Environmental Conservation permits conditional harvesting of shellfish in Setauket harbor. There are notifications to inform the public about local rainfall limits. This is the principal factor to determine whether on may fish in the shallows without disturbing the natural population balance.

The realty market has high-value county homes and mansions with spectacular ocean views on offer. Setauket is a renowned suburb and home values can exceed $ 5 million. The suburb is a favorite with realtors, many of whom reside locally. Prospective residents can look forward to a wide choice, something to fit most budgets and excellent appreciation potential.
