(BELLPORT, NY) – Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone will be joined by community leaders and members of the Suffolk County Police Department to declare June “Gun Violence Awareness Month” in Suffolk County. This declaration is part of a joint effort involving New York communities statewide to promote annual month-long awareness, discussions and activities to reduce gun violence.
As this is the first initiative of its kind in the nation, communities throughout New York State will be holding simultaneous press events declaring “Gun Violence Awareness Month” at 10:30am on Wednesday, including an event held in the Capitol by NYS Assemblymember Karim Camara and NYS Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, who will be introducing a state resolution.
