(Huntington, NY) – A cold and windy day couldn’t keep Councilwoman Susan A. Berland and her dedicated team of volunteers away this past Saturday at Carll Cemetery. As part of her annual “Keep Huntington Beautiful” campaign, Berland hosted a restoration and beautification event at Carll Cemetery on Vanderbilt Parkway and Deer Park Avenue in Dix Hills. Volunteers raked leaves, cleared branches and snipped away sticker bushes and other brush from the historic gravestones.
Participants included the Town of Huntington Cemetery Stewards, Town Historian Robert Hughes and members of the Huntington Youth Council. Following the cleanup, volunteers were treated to pizza and garlic knots, courtesy of Spuntino of Dix Hills.
“I really enjoy our ‘Keep Huntington Beautiful’ events,” commented Councilwoman Berland. “Despite the windy weather, we had fun learning about the cemetery and keeping it preserved for years to come. I would like to thank our volunteers who dedicated their Saturday morning to restoring Carll Cemetery and to Spuntino for providing the delicious pizza and garlic knots.”
