(RIVERHEAD, NY) – Long Island Aquarium & Exhibition Center invites you to participate in its Trainer Programand learn what it really takes to be a Marine Mammal Trainer at an Aquarium.
Anyone over 10 years of age are asked to don their rubber boots (optional!) and shadow the Aquarium’s Marine Mammal staff on Saturdays from April through September. During the nearly two-hour program, “trainers” assist the staff with their daily routines, including food preparation and participation in a harbor seal training session.
About the Trainer Program
- Participants learn how we train our animals and help train our sea lions to learn a new behavior –painting – and take home a painting they helped create
- Go into the seal exhibit with trainers
- Participate in a seal training session — and get to pet and feed one of our harbor seals
- Help prepare food for seals
- Attend our Sea Lion Show
- Get a kiss from sea lion, Java – and take home a keepsake photo!
- Receive an Aquarium shirt
- Take home a Certificate of Completion
- Instructions on how to get started with clicker training
- Full-day Aquarium Admission
Schedule Saturdays; April – September Sessions: 10:15am or 2:00pm Participants (maximum four per group) must be at least 10 years of age.
