MTA MetroCard Fare Increase for NICE Bus Riders
(Long Island, NY) On Sunday March 3, 2013, the price of an MTA single ride MetroCard fare is increasing from $2.25 to $2.50. Cash fares, however, on NICE Bus remain at $2.25.
This MetroCard increase will affect all products: Weekly, Monthly, Time-based cards, etc. Additionally, half fare MetroCard tickets will increase to $1.25 (i.e. Senior Citizen Metro Card). Unlimited Ride monthly cards purchased before March 3 must be activated by March 11 for the old fare structure to apply.
At this time, the MTA is NOT collecting a step up fee from cash paying NICE customers for transfers to an MTA bus. The MTA does, however, reserve the right to charge a step up fee in the future. As always, transfers issued to cash-pay customers will not be accepted for subway entry.
