Shakespeare: Tales and Tempests; A Theatrical Journey at the Jamesport Meeting House Friday, March 15, Saturday March 16th, Friday March 22nd, and Saturday March 23rd.
(Long Island, NY) Join us on a “rich and strange” two-hour’s traffic of our stage as we journey through the last six plays Shakespeare wrote. Come celebrate with us the actor, the audience, the magic of theatre, the spirit of collaboration…and the beauty and power of Shakespeare’s language.
This original production is part of Northeast Stage’s annual winter East End Shakespeare Actor Training Program, headed by A.D. Newcomer. In this program, a small group of actors comes together for eight weeks to study classical acting, to learn approaches to playing Shakespeare, engage in a deep exploration of his texts, and ultimately share these texts with the audience in an original piece of theatre using Shakespeare’s characters, stories, and language.
The idea for this year’s production, Shakespeare: Tales and Tempests was first conceived by A.D. Newcomer. The production was then created together by the whole troupe, picking material from six plays, gathering staging ideas, and writing narrative to help tie together the scenes, speeches, songs, and soliloquys of Shakespeare’s that were ultimately chosen to be put on stage. This collaborative theatrical production focuses on the last six plays in the Shakespearean canon: Pericles (co-authored with George Wilkins), Cymbeline, The Winter’s Tale, The Tempest; and two plays Shakespeare wrote with John Fletcher: Henry VIII, or All Is True and The Two Noble Kinsmen.
Shakespeare: Tales And Tempests features Steve Buchanan, Cate Clifford, Richard Gardini, Kevin Monsell, A.D. Newcomer, Colin Palmer, Suzette Reiss, and Vivian Wyrick. Directed by A.D. Newcomer, with musical arrangements by Vivian Wyrick.
Performance dates are Friday, March 15, Saturday March 16th, Friday March 22nd, and Saturday March 23rd. All shows start at 7pm, with an admission cost of $18 at the door, which includes a post-show wine and cheese reception each evening. Performances take place at the beautiful Jamesport Meeting House, Main Rd & Manor Lane, Jamesport.
All proceeds from the production go to support the Jamesport Meeting House, and Northeast Stage’s annual free Shakespeare-in-the-Park in Greenport. This year’s Shakespeare-in-the-Park will be Henry V, to be directed by Colin Palmer.
