(Long Island, NY) New York State Senate candidate Anthony Senft (R,C,I – Great River) today denounced a bill supported by Democrats in the State Senate to give “New York State” citizenship to illegal aliens living in New York, with all the rights and benefits legal citizens enjoy, completely disregarding Federal immigration law.
“I know liberal Democrats live in their own little fantasy world, but here in the real world, New York State is still part of the United States. We can’t unilaterally create citizens in violation of Federal Law,” said Senft. “This bill is a slap in the face to all legal immigrants who work hard, respect our laws, and earned their citizenship.”
Senft called on his Democrat opponents, Joe Fritz and Adrienne Esposito, to join him in opposing this bill. “Let’s all join together in a joint statement to support the rule of law, support our taxpayers, and respect our ancestors who became citizens legally,” said Senft. “If they don’t join with me, then they support granting full state citizenship to illegal immigrants.”
When Democrats controlled the State Senate in 2009-10, they raised taxes by $14 billion. Senft said this bill is a perfect example of the danger of giving Democrats full control of all branches of New York State government again. “If this bill were to become law, New York State would be even more of a magnet for illegal immigration. Imagine the tidal wave from all over the country overwhelming our welfare system, schools, and medical facilities,” Senft said. “Taxpayers will be paying billions more to support millions of people rushing to New York to take advantage of free benefits.”
Senft encouraged voters not to be intimidated by accusations of racism and other liberal lies. “I welcome and support people who have entered our country legally, are working hard, respecting our laws, and earning their citizenship the legal way,” said Senft. “This is a question of respecting the rule of law, respecting legal immigrants, and respecting the taxpayers,” Senft concluded.
