New traffic court in Hauppauge opens, hopes to generate $11 million annually for Suffolk
(Long Island, NY) The Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Authority debuted in Hauppauge this Monday, giving Suffolk its own in-house traffic court system after New York State had handled those duties previously.

Replacing the state-run Department of Motor Vehicles Traffic Violations Bureau, the Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Authority’s jurisdiction will cover all five western towns in Suffolk and will take over all non-criminal parking and traffic violations, including parking summonses, red light camera citations, and moving violations.
Whereas previously the monies collected by the traffic court system belonged to New York State, because Suffolk now handles those duties, the revenue generated by the new Traffic and Parking Violations Authority will go straight to the county- an estimated $11 million annually after costs are figured in, according to reports. The additional revenue is expected to assist with various budget issues that Suffolk County has been experiencing.
The Traffic and Parking Violations Authority will not cover Suffolk municipalities that have their own established traffic court systems.
The location of the new Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Authority court building is in the ground floor of the H. Lee Dennison Building at 100 Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge. The phone number is (631) 853-3800.
Parking or traffic tickets issued before April 1 must still be addressed through the state-run Department of Motor Vehicles. Any issued on or after April 1 are to go through the new Suffolk County Traffic and Parking Violations Authority.
