Summer Camp raises money for local charities
(Sag Harbor, NY) —New summer camp teaches kids local history and culture. Portion of the proceeds to benefit local groups.
Barefoot Kids will be embarking on a new idea, to preserve our unique landscape through education of children while reinforcing the art of real play time through our natural surroundings. Topics of the summer program will be based on four subjects, historical events/people, art & literature, farming, and the sea. Children are exposed to a wide variety of activities, with the program serving as a platform to celebrate and bring together local individuals/groups. Barefoot Kids “old fashioned playtime” seamlessly integrates daily lessons with outdoor play and a complete ban on electronics, and over scheduled activities. In keeping with the idea of protecting and celebrating our local culture, Barefoot Kids will be donating a portion of their proceeds to Save Sag Harbor, The Whaling Museum, The Peconic Land Trust, and the Peconic Baykeepers.
About Barefoot Kids
Barefoot Kids is the brainchild of Victoria Kuss, who grew up among Long Island historians. A mother of two children, recently returning from Ireland, she was astonished at the loss in our local way of life. Passionate about our unique history, she created this camp as a blueprint that will not just “take”, but give back to the local community. Her goal is to make history come alive for children, while getting a new generation playing in neighborhoods all across the east end.
