Life and style shop in Port Washington celebrates Earth Day in a big way and you’re invited to the “love art, live green, give back” party.
(Port Washington, NY) – Wit & Whim, Port Washington’s newest hub for eclectic gifts, gadgets and vintage collectibles is celebrating Earth Day all month long in April and everybody’s invited to join in the fun. To help create the next window display, Wit & Whim will be collecting small broken toy parts throughout March and April culminating on April 28th with our children’s “upcycle everyday” craft project. “It’s a hands-on lesson and promises to be a blast” says owner Laurie Scheinman. “Participants will receive an eco-friendly goody bag to top off the fun.”
For grown ups, there will be an eco-themed art exhibit by many of the areas top artists on display throughout the month of April. To further increase awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s natural environment, there will be an organic cook-off on April 11 — whip up your best wholesome dishes and pit them against some of the areas top chefs. Win “best chef” bragging rights and a $250 shopping spree to wit & whim.
Is Earth Day (April 22nd) your birthday? Prove it, and you’ll get a whopping 25% discount at the store which has something for everyone ranging from old-fashioned penny candy and whimsical soap sets to boho-style hand embroidered belts to rare vintage bar sets and mid-century furniture.
“The notion of celebrating Earth Day all month long in the store is exciting,” added Scheinman. “But my heart says giving back to the community is equally if not more important.” To that end, Scheinman has teamed up with Residents For a More Beautiful Port Washington and the Town of North Hempstead to support Port Washington’s Main Street Earth Day Clean up celebration on April 13th. For the entire month, the store will contribute its proceeds to the organization, and on clean-up day, wit & whim will be serving free organic beverages and passing along Eco-inspired gifts to the hard workers who will be planting, cleaning and beautifying our town.
Wit & Whim is committed to giving back to organizations that benefit individuals, communities and the world. In addition to this collaboration with Residents, other organizations that have benefitted from the store’s “fun-raising” initiatives include: HEARTS, Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts and the Wounded Warrior Project.
This unusual gift boutique, located at Six Carlton Avenue, is housed in a restored 1885 historical home along the waterfront in the town of Port Washington, NY where shoppers will find a cleverly edited collection of vintage, contemporary, Americana and global treasures.
