(Long Island, NY) Today, Senator Lee Zeldin, candidate for New York’s First Congressional District, was named to the first round of the National Republican Congressional Committee’s (NRCC) ‘Young Guns’ program. Each year, the NRCC names select, top-tier candidates to the program, after they have successfully hit a number of political and fundraising benchmarks. Being named to the Young Guns Program provides candidates and their campaigns with the tools and mentorship they need to run winning campaigns against their Democratic opponents.
In the last election cycle, the program played a key role in electing 35 new Republican Members to the 113th Congress. Ahead of the 2014 election cycle, Senator Zeldin was named as ‘On the Radar,” which is the first of three levels of the prestigious program.
“I am confident that Lee Zeldin will be a successful and dedicated member of this program and that he will continue to work hard to reach the crucial campaign benchmarks that have been established ahead of the 2014 elections,” said NRCC Chairman Greg Walden. “Lee’s conservative principles and priorities provide a stark contrast to Barack Obama’s irresponsible agenda. New York’s hardworking families deserve better than skyrocketing health care costs, financial instability and mountains of debt on the backs of their families. I am certain that Lee Zeldin will be a strong contender this election cycle.”
“It is time to end the fiscal insanity and D.C. dysfunction, plaguing our nation’s capital,” said Senator Zeldin. “The Republican Party and Conservative Party stands united with the residents of the First Congressional District to send a strong message that our nation is heading in the wrong direction and the best way to change Washington is to change the people we send there.”
