(Long Island, NY) Celebrities, socialites and medical professionals all gathered to attend The 13th Annual American Heart Association’s Heart of the Hamptons Ball.
The event took place on Saturday, June 20th, 2009 at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton. The purpose of the event is to help prevent, treat and defeat heart disease and stroke. The American Heart Association mission is also to fund cutting-edge research, conduct lifesaving public and professional programs, and advocate to protect public health.
This year, the Heart Ball honored Isadore Rosenfeld, MD, FACP, FACC, known as “American Doctor” and host of Fox News Channel’s “House Call.” A Rossi Distinguished Professor of Clinical Medicine at Weill Cornel Medical College, Best-Selling author, and President of the Rosenfeld Heart Foundation, Dr. Rosenfeld was awarded for his outstanding work in cardiac care.

In addition, J.P. Mohr, MD, MS, Director of the Stroke Center, Neurological Institute of Columbia University Medical Center was honored for his excellence in stroke awareness, prevention and treatment. A special local award was also given to the the Town of East Hampton for becoming the first Long Island community to be designed a “Heart Safe Community.”
The event was emceed by the charming Bill Hemmer, Anchor for the Fox News Channel. During the event an exclusive preview of the soon to be released documentary “King of the Hamptons,” was introduced by Dan Rattiner, founder of Dan’s Papers.
The Heart of the Hamptons Ball, sponsored by Merck & Co., is a fun and elegant event focused on raising important funds for the mission of the American Heart Association. An ensemble of colleagues from NYC, Long Island and the Hamptons enjoyed the beautiful setting of the Hamptons while dining on delicious health foods and tasting savored local wines from the region.
The evening was reminiscent of the 70’s with a “Stayin Alive” theme and featured melodies from a live band “Millennium,” and a DJ by East End Entertainment. Hamptonites and Long Island professionals enjoyed a cocktail hour, sit-down dinner and silent auction throughout the night. “This is an important time to our friends to give generously to the number one killer of men and women, cardiovascular disease and to the incredible voluntary health organization, the American Heart Association,” replied Stephen Adler, 2009 Heart of the Hampton Event Chairman.
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” The mission statement was updated by the American Heart Association during its Annual Meeting in April 2007. The mission statement undergoes a formal review process every third year. The association’s impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010.
The American Heart Association is divided physically into the National Center (located in Dallas, Texas) and eight affiliate offices that cover the United States and Puerto Rico. Millions of volunteers and donors support their efforts every year.
