Aztec Two-Step Duo Performs their own Fan Favorites as well as the Hits of Simon & Garfunkel and The Everly Brother
(Albany, NY) Join legendary folk-rock duo Aztec Two-Step, ”possibly the best acoustic duo in the world today,” according to Richard Cuccaro in Acoustic Live, as they honor the work of their musical predecessors The Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel, as well as perform their own fan favorites. The event will take place at the Boulton Center for the Performing Arts, 37 West Main Street, Bay Shore NY 11706, Saturday, November 23 at 8:00pm. Aztec Two-Step takes its name from the poem “A Coney Island of the Mind” by award-winning beat poet, Lawrence Ferlinghetti. Since their serendipitous meeting at an open mic in Boston in 1971 and their self-titled Elektra Records debut in 1972, Rex Fowler and Neal Shulman have been creating music that provides a soundtrack to a generation. After more than forty years together, Rex and Neal consistently offer a fresh take on old favorites, such as their tribute to Jack Kerouac, “The Persecution and Restoration of Dean Moriarty” and the haunting “Highway Song,” as well as songs from their new Cause & Effect CD, and everything in between.
In 2008, Aztec Two-Step released Time It Was-The Simon & Garfunkel Songbook (Red Engine Records), a live album of Simon & Garfunkel’s music, featuring narration by the late legendary DJ and music historian Pete Fornatale, who provided commentary and insights based on his interviews with Simon & Garfunkel. And according to Mr. Fornatale, “Any artist that presents themselves before an audience as a duo, whether it’s Simon & Garfunkel or Aztec Two-Step, owes a debt to Don and Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers.
Possessing a rich musical legacy of their own, few groups, if any, are more qualified to interpret and perform the timeless songs of these iconic duos than Aztec Two-Step. In this special evening, Rex and Neal will honor the pure poetry and unmistakable harmonies of Simon & Garfunkel, as well the seminal songs and harmonies of the remarkable Everly Brothers. And, as another “classic duo,” they will perform their own Aztec Two-Step fan favorites as well.
