(Long Island, NY) The partner of a Huntington accounting firm convicted of scamming over $800,000 dollars from his clients, including a Ronkonkoma condo complex, a disabled man and an elderly victim suffering from dementia, is scheduled for sentencing today (Tuesday, August 11) in Riverhead, Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota said.
Scott Meyer, a former partner of the Johnson and Meyer accounting firm in Huntington, is free on bond. Earlier this year he pleaded guilty to grand larceny, possession of a forged instrument and falsifying business records for his theft of money while working as the accountant for the Huntington Rural Cemetery Association and the Nob Hill Condominium Complex, and for stealing approximately $160,000 from a Greenport Alzheimer’s victim, now deceased, and over $240,000 from another client, a disabled man residing in an assisted living facility.

“Financial records show he was stealing to pay his credit card bills that had an average monthly balance of $50,000 – the majority of the charges for shopping, travel and vacation expenses,” DA Spota said. “In fact, after this defendant was initially arrested by this office in 2013, he continued to steal – taking approximately $30,000 in cash entrusted to him by the condominium complex board of managers,” DA Spota said.
Acting State Supreme Court Justice Mark Cohen (fourth floor of the courthouse) will sentence Meyer, 48, of Seaford.
Meyer was convicted in 2007 of federal charges for misappropriation of insurance funds and conspiracy. His CPA license was suspended following the convictions, but was eventually reinstated.
The court calendar call is at 9:30 am.
