(Long Island, NY) Latin American first time homebuyers and homeowners thinking of refinancing their homes can learn the ins and outs of what’s available to them at a bi-lingual community seminar sponsored by Assemblyman Mike Miller (D-Queens) and the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC).
“Purchasing your first home can be very stressful,” said Maryann Maltese, Miller’s chief of staff. “It can make people anxious and may prevent them from going forward.”
“Some people are uncomfortable sitting in front of a professional, they feel pressured to buy a product,” Maltese said.
This seminar, sponsored by a non-profit organization, presents the best information with no pressure.
“We hope that with the professionals we’re bringing in that we can assist residents who may be at that point or nearing the possibility of problems with foreclosure and help them,” Miller said. “We hope to educate people with the process of homebuying and what you need in order to qualify for and keep the residence you’re getting into.”
People will learn about the best routes to purchasing new homes. If they are homeowners, they will learn how to qualify for refinancing or reverse mortgages.
They will also learn about the most up to date laws and how to not become the victim of a scam.
“This is the first of many seminars we will be holding in different parts of my district,” Miller said. “We want to give people the most information they need in order to make an informed decision about the biggest purchase they’ll make in a lifetime.”
The event will take place on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, located at 1737 Linden Street in Ridgewood. The first seminar will begin at 10 am and will be conducted in English; the second seminar will begin at 11 am and will be conducted in Spanish. There will also be bilingual members of Miller’s staff on hand to answer any questions. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Assemblyman Miller’s office at 718-805-0950.
