(Albany, NY) – Assemblyman Mike Miller – (D-Queens) today announced that Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver recently appointed him to Chair the Assembly Task Force on People with Disabilities. Assemblyman Miller assumes this position from past Chair, Assemblyman Michael Cusick of Staten Island.
 Michael G. Miller represents the 38th Assembly District in Queens County, which includes the neighborhoods of Woodhaven, Ridgewood, Richmond Hill, Ozone Park and Glendale. He was elected in September of 2009 in the Special Election called by Governor Paterson. |
“I am thrilled and honored that Speaker Silver has trusted me with this responsibility,” Assemblyman Miller said. “I recognize that there are a number of critical issues facing New York’s disability community that are in dire need of addressing. I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and digging right in.”
Miller said that he is looking forward to attending the Assembly’s upcoming Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day (LDAD) in his new capacity as Chair of the Task Force. This event provides an opportunity for legislators, their staffs and the general public to be educated on the issues that the disability community faces, and, at the same time, to recognize the achievements and accomplishments of advocates and people with disabilities. LDAD will be held in Albany on Monday, June 3rd from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
“One of the many reasons that I am looking forward to Disabilities Awareness Day is that I know it will give me a great opportunity to meet with a number of statewide advocates all in one place,” Assemblyman Miller said. “But I hope in the weeks leading up to this important event that many of the advocates who I will be working with during my time as Task Force Chair will have a chance to stop in and meet with me prior to LDAD. I look forward to developing relationships that will last a lifetime as we forge a path to continually improve and enhance the lives of people with disabilities.”
