Zeldin, Gowdy, Love All Voted Against Terrorist Gun Loophole and Have Led the Fight to Defund Planned Parenthood
(Long Island, NY) Today, Democratic candidate for Congress Anna Throne-Holst released the following statement calling out Congressman Lee Zeldin for holding a fundraiser with Tea Party extremists Trey Gowdy and Mia Love.
“During his year in Congress, Lee Zeldin has voted in lockstep with the Tea Party’s right wing agenda against the interests of Long Island families and businesses,” said Anna Throne-Holst, Democratic candidate for New York’s 1st District. “It’s no surprise that hardline conservatives Trey Gowdy and Mia Love are making the trip to Long Island to fundraise for Zeldin considering all three of them are united in both refusing to support legislation to keep guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists, and led the fight to defund Planned Parenthood and deny affordable health and family planning services to those in need.”
In December, Zeldin, Gowdy and Love all towed the Tea Party line and stood with the NRA against legislation cosponsored by Long Island Republican Peter King to prevent suspected terrorists on the no-fly list from buying guns.
All three also have been unwavering in their efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, voting a number of times to defund the organization. Trey Gowdy condescendingly winked at Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards during House Republicans’ outrageous hearing against the organization and Mia Love has been one of the most outspoken Republicans on the issue, speaking at rallies with signs that read, “put an end to the Holocaust.”
Anna Throne-Holst previously served three terms as Southampton Town Supervisor and her candidacy has been endorsed by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Whip Steny Hoyer, Rep. Steve Israel, Congressman Jerrold Nadler, Rep. Joe Crowley, Rep. Kathleen Rice, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, Rep. Paul Tonko and former Rep. Carolyn McCarthy.
She’s also been endorsed by EMILY’s List and a number of other local elected officials including Suffolk County Legislator Bill Lindsay, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman, Shelter Island Town Supervisor Jim Dougherty, Assemblyman Fred Thiele and many more.
Anna Throne-Holst is the former Southampton Town Supervisor and a working mother of four children – Nicholas, Max, Sebastian and Karess. She is running for the Democratic nomination to take on Republican Congressman Lee Zeldin.
