Senator Schumer Vows to Block Any Amendment that Would Cost New York City Schools Funding
(Long Island, NY) The Alliance for Quality Education wishes to commend Senator Chuck Schumer for standing strong against cuts to New York State’s public schools. Any amendment to the Every Child Achieves Act that cuts funding for our public schools is entirely unacceptable. Senator Schumer is fighting now against potential amendments that could cut more than $300 million in federal funding for public schools throughout New York State. The cuts would have damaging impacts on the education of New York students in every corner of the state. Senator Schumer’s leadership is vital to the success of our public schools,” said Billy Easton, Executive Director, Alliance for Quality Education.
An amemndment proposed by Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) would change funding allocation formulas in ways that would be devastating for New York State schools upstate and downstate, urban and rural.
