NYC Mayor De Blasio Delivered an Address Today Launching His ‘Equity and Excellence’ Agenda for Public Schools
(Long Island, NY) Mayor de Blasio’s equity agenda is essential to ensuring that students across the board have the opportunity to experience a quality education regardless of race or socioeconomic status. Reading specialists, Advanced Placement courses, and computer technology are all necessary components to equity in education. Past mayors not only ignored inequity, but made it worse. Mayor de Blasio’s vision for educational equity is coming together, with today’s pieces being added to his pre-K and community schools initiatives. The hedge fund financed attack organizations will no doubt criticize Mayor de Blasio’s agenda and will continue to try to block all efforts at equity. Regardless, Mayor de Blasio’s commitment and leadership on equity is essential to finally delivering all of our students the education they deserve. Yet there is more to be done–the state needs to provide the funding promised under the Campaign for Fiscal Equity court order and City Hall needs to aggressively advocate for these funds.
