(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino (R,C,I-Sayville) is announcing this year’s Italian-American scholarships, which are offered to New York State’s high school seniors or future college students. The New York Conference of Italian-American State Legislators will award 4 scholarships, two athletic and two academic, in allotments of $2,500 each.
“Our conference is very proud of our role in promoting higher education and assisting students in reaching their academic goals and full potential for future success in the global marketplace,” Garbarino said. “It’s always comforting to know we have young, ambitious students who are active in their communities and are eager to expand their knowledge by earning a college degree.”
Applicants will be judged based upon grade point average (85 or above), interest in pursuing a higher education, involvement in the local community, as well as individual financial need. Applicants do not need to be Italian-American to apply. Applications are due by April 11.
“In a world where the price of a college education has risen dramatically I highly recommend that our students apply and take advantage of this opportunity,” Garbarino concluded.
Please send all applications to the Legislative Office Building, Room 529, Albany, New York, 12248. Anyone with questions regarding the scholarships or application process should contact Assemblyman Garbarino’s office by email at GarbarinoA@assembly.state.ny.us or by phone at 518-455-4611.
