Program will assist localities rebuild from Super Storm Sandy
(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Edward Hennessey (D-Medford) attended the Governors NY Rising Communities Fall Conference to discuss the projects that the Community Reconstruction Program Committees have in mind to help the thousands of families and businesses continue to rebuild after Super Storm Sandy.
“Mastic Beach is an under-served, working-class community that was hit particularly hard by Super Storm Sandy,” Assemblyman Hennessey said. “Currently, this community is facing numerous hurdles to rebuild, renew, and move forward. Super Storm Sandy destroyed the sand dune system at Smith Point County Park and now the dunes are in a near-breach condition. If another storm hits before the dunes are replenished, we could lose everything.”
The Community Reconstruction Program will allow these communities to bring together local elected officials, community leaders and residents to develop the comprehensive rebuilding plan, Hennessey noted.
“This program will provide relief to the communities that need it the most,” Assemblyman Hennessey said. ‘I will continue working with Governor Cuomo to ensure that our communities receive their fair share in order to stabilize, rebuild, and grow,” Hennessey concluded.
