(LONG ISLAND, NY) The following statement was released today by NYS Assembly 3rd District, Edward J. Hennessey:
“Serving in the state legislature is about fighting for the needs of the people you represent, not about self gain. Unfortunately, with all the recent arrests of elected officials, it’s clear that we must do more to crack down on public corruption. This is why we must pass stronger ethics reform laws to send a clear message that any government official who violates the public’s trust will face severe consequences.
“One measure that I am currently sponsoring provides that any state officer or local officer convicted of a felony involving breach of public trust be subject to forfeiture of pension benefits (A.7173).
“I am hopeful that in this legislative session we can work to restore the peoples trust in our government by passing tough news laws to clean up Albany.”
