(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) proudly announces that legislation (A.1357-A) that would ban the sale of any crystalline or powdered alcohol substance has been signed into law in New York State.
Powdered Alcohol, also known as “palcohol,” is a powder that, when mixed with liquid, creates the equivalent of an alcoholic mixed drink. In 2014, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved powdered alcohol, but quickly reversed its decision due to heightened concerns about the substance.
“It is an unfortunate reality that in recent years, hazardous and addictive drugs have infiltrated our communities, and I am grateful that we have taken lawful action against another potentially threatening substance,” said Montesano. “The portability and novelty of powered alcohol could be extremely harmful if it fell into the wrong hands. I believe we have taken appropriate measures to protect our communities from the risk of this new substance.”
New York now joins several states, including Louisiana, South Carolina, Utah, Vermont, Alaska and Virginia in the prohibition of “palcohol”.
