Also named as Ranking Member of Judiciary, Government Oversight Committees
(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) has been named to the Assembly Ethics Committee, as well as the Legislative Ethics Commission. The Ethics Committee is the principal agent for investigating potential corruption and sexual harassment in the Assembly ranks, and as one of eight statewide representatives to the Legislative Ethics Commission, Montesano will be helping to enforce a stringent code of conduct for elected officials across New York State. As a sponsor of pension forfeiture for legislators convicted of a felony and the Public Officers Accountability Act, a sweeping reform measure to create term limits for legislative leaders and make breaking the public trust a felony, Montesano sees his appointments as crucial to cleaning up the rampant corruption in Albany.
“It’s no secret that our Legislature has been riddled with ethics and corruption charges over the past few years,” said Montesano. “As a member of both the Assembly Ethics Committee and the Legislative Ethics Commission, I look forward to ensuring our representatives are held to a higher standard and helping to rid our Capitol of those who abuse the public trust and use their positions in government to further their own venal interests.”
In addition to his role on these committees, Montesano was also named the Ranking Minority Member on the Judiciary Committee and remains Ranking Member of the Government Oversight Committee.
