Gov. Cuomo vetoed same legislation last year despite unanimous legislative support
(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) today excoriated Gov. Andrew Cuomo for again vetoing legislation that would assist our veterans. This bill, which Murray voted in favor of, let both combat and non-combat veterans buy back three years of their time in service of our nation to go towards his or her pension. The governor vetoed similar legislation last year, citing a lack of funding source. This year’s bill fixed that, yet Cuomo still vetoed the bill.
“It’s simply shameful that the governor vetoed meaningful legislation for the brave men and women in our military,” said Murray. “The pension buyback program received unanimous support and is just one small token of our appreciation for our veterans.
“It’s disgusting that the governor has chosen to withhold this option for veterans while peddling programs that give government handouts to illegal immigrants and prison inmates. Our servicemen and women play by the rules and go above and beyond for our nation. They deserve better from the Empire State and its governor.”
