(Long Island, NY) “Obtaining a higher education used to be the dream for those looking to advance in their life and career, but now that dream often becomes a nightmare with an overwhelming burden of debt,” said Murray. “Many students carry this debt for years or even decades, putting a hold on other dreams like buying a house or starting a family.”

“I am proud to put forth common-sense legislation that would help make college more affordable for middle-class families and ease the burden on those already struggling with debt. Increasing the income cap for tuition assistance, offering a deduction for student loan payments, and creating a “learning to work” program are all common-sense ideas to help out families and students looking to achieve their academic dreams.
“The Assembly Republican Conference has taken this first step to help middle-class families and our hope is that Assembly Democrats will do the right thing and join us in ensuring that the next generation of New Yorkers starts off on the right foot.”
