(Long Island, NY) “We commend Assemblymember Dean Murray for bringing to light yet another instance of PSEG’s hypocrisy and disregard for Long Island’s ratepayers,” said Dan Tomaszewski, co-founder of the Coalition for a Brighter Long Island, in a statement issued today.
“How many times does PSEG-LI have to cheat us before Governor Cuomo steps in? PSEG-LI promised Long Islanders a brighter energy future, but it refuses to move forward with projects like Caithness II that will lower rates, create jobs, and make Long Island more energy independent. Why? Because building Caithness II hurts the corporate profits of PSEG.
“If Caithness II is built, Long Island doesn’t have to import as much off-Island power – including power from PSEG’s own plants. PSEG admits in its 2015 10K filing that building new, more efficient plants like Caithness II would hurt its profits, unless, of course, they are built by PSEG. The company puts out press releases touting the economic and environmental benefits to Connecticut and New Jersey of its new plants in those states, while Long Islanders are being shackled to old, antiquated plants and expensive imports.
“Assemblymember Murray is right when he says that Long Islanders are wising up to PSEG-LI’s true motives. It’s time for the Governor to wake up to the fact that he put the fox in charge of the hen house when it comes to Long Island’s energy future.”

About The Coalition For A Brighter Long Island
The Coalition for a Brighter Long Island is a grassroots group of concerned citizens and organizations who believe Long Island needs affordable, reliable, modern on-island energy. PSEG-LI’s decision to delay more efficient power plants like Caithness II is short-sighted and will damage Long Island’s economic growth and environment. The Coalition is calling for the construction of Caithness II now to ensure a cleaner, brighter future for Long Island.
