(Long Island, NY) On Wednesday, February 3rd, Assemblywoman Solages (Elmont-D) joined Northwell Franklin Medical Center to highlight the importance of Women’s Heart Health at the hospital’s Go RED for Women’s Heart Health event.
Northwell Franklin Medical Center’s Go RED for Women’s Heart Health event was part of an effort to commemorate American Heart Month and spread awareness about the importance of women’s heart health. Heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. At least 80-90% of heart disease is preventable with education and self-care.

Assemblywoman Michaelle C. Solages presented a New York State Assembly Citation to Dr. Stacey E. Rosen for her dedication to educating the public and raising awareness for women’s heart health. When it comes to heart disease, there are many similarities between men and women. However, women don’t always get the usual heart attack symptoms. While some women experience typical chest pains, women may also get symptoms that are “atypical.” These can easily be dismissed as the flu, stress or feeling under the weather. Chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue and weakness, and indigestion are all symptoms of heart disease.
If you think that you have any symptoms of heart disease, be sure to notify your doctor. Healthy diet and exercise, as well as regular trips to the doctor, can help prevent cardiac issues. Call the Katz Institute for Women’s Health for more information: 1-855-850-5494
To help raise awareness, you can post a picture of yourself wearing red and hashtag #AmericanHeartMonth. If you have any questions regarding this issue, or any other concerns, please contact the Office of Assemblywoman Solages at 516-599-2972.
