(Long Island, NY) The Fourth Precinct reports the arrest of an Atlantic Beach woman for DWI at 1:45am on Sunday, February 07, 2016 in Lawrence.
According to Police, defendant Giovanna Rupay, 43, while driving a 2013 red colored Honda Pilot was involved in a vehicular accident at 12:13am on the southbound lanes on Route 878 at Seagirt Boulevard just north of the Atlantic Beach Bridge. The defendant abandoned her vehicle and walked home leaving the scene of the accident. The male driver and female passenger of the second auto, a black colored Dodge sedan, remained on scene and notified police.

The Police investigation led to the discovery of the defendant’s address, where Police Officers located the defendant and transported her back to the scene. Subsequent to the investigation it was determined that the defendant was intoxicated and driving with a seven year old female passenger at the time of the incident. She was arrested at 1:45am without incident. No injuries were reported from the accident.
Defendant Giovanna Rupay is charged with DWI sub. 2 & 3, Aggravated Driving Intoxicated with a Child (Leandra’s Law) and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. She will be arraigned on Sunday, February 7, 2016 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
