Named Nassau Bar Association January 2014 Pro Bono Attorney of the Month
(Mineola, NY) While not a frequent occurrence, there are times when clients at the Safe Center LI (formerly Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence) need the expertise of a lawyer who specializes in criminal law. Fortunately, attorney Elizabeth Kase of Port Washington provides pro bono legal representation in these difficult situations. For her long commitment and dedication in handling these special cases, Nassau County Bar Association President Peter J. Mancuso has named Elizabeth Kase Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for January 2014.

Unfortunately, in the midst of the turmoil of an abusive relationship and usually at the instigation of the abuser, victims of abuse do get arrested. So in addition to the abuse suffered at the hands of their abusers, victims now have the additional fear of going to jail and being separated from their children. Victims become defendants, and like all defendants, they deserve the best possible defense.
Because of her background and training, Kase truly understands both the legal and emotional issues presented when a victim of abuse is arrested. Her volunteer services are provided to these women through the Safe Center LI’s Pro Bono Project, which generally seeks volunteer attorneys to represent victims of domestic abuse in family, matrimonial and immigration matters. Over the past years, Kase has successfully represented four clients in criminal court, and has inspired members of her law firm, Kase & Druker of Garden City, to volunteer as well.
A distinguished graduate of Smith College and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Elizabeth Kase, has dedicated her career to the practice of criminal law. As an Assistant District Attorney in New York County she successfully prosecuted hundreds of cases pertaining to sex crimes, domestic violence, narcotics, cyber-crime and white-collar felonies. For the past 10 years she has been a partner at Kase & Druker practicing federal and state criminal defense.
An active member of the Nassau County Bar Association, Kase serves on the Defendant’s Round Table Committee, and has served as a judge when teams of law students compete at NCBA’s annual Hon. Elaine Jackson Stack Moot Court Competition.
Elizabeth also serves her community as the Village Justice in Baxter Estates, Port Washington and is a leader in many professional and community organizations including UJA-Federation and the North Shore Child and Family Guidance Center where she serves on the Board of Directors. She has been recognized by Long Island Business News as one of “40 Rising Stars Under 40″ as one of the “50 Most Influential Women on Long Island.”
Founded in 1899, the Nassau County Bar Association consists of private and public attorneys, judges, legal educators and law students who demonstrate their commitment to the community by offering a variety of services for the public, including lawyer referral services, mortgage foreclosure, Sandy Recovery and senior citizen legal clinics, judicial screening, public education programs, and support for the Volunteer Lawyers Project, which provides much-needed free legal services for the indigent of Nassau County. The WE CARE Fund, a part of the NCBA’s charitable arm, assists children, the elderly and others in need, through countless projects and donations.
