(LONG ISLAND, NY) On March 13, 2014, the auditorium of the Gordon Parks School will be transformed into a courtroom where several 7th and 8th grade students will participate in a Mock Trial Competition. Prior to this event, the students had undergone a rigorous 6 week trial training program conducted by the Léandre Law Group, where they learned the phases and techniques of trial litigation.
Jacques M. Leandre, of the Léandre Law Group, states “the key to the success of this program is the strong partnership between the school administration, teachers, parents and students. Through hard work, sacrifice, and commitment the students were able to grasp the concepts of American Jurisprudence, while employing the Common Core Learning Standards they’ve learned throughout the school year.”
This event will give each student an opportunity to demonstrate their mastery of trial litigation. Students will participate as prosecutors and defense attorneys. The case study for this event is the controversial NYPD “Stop and Frisk” policy which was the hot-bed issue in the recent election cycle. Several elected official and community leaders have confirmed their attendance in support of our “Lawyers-in-Training. Please see the details for the event above.
