(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bayport woman for driving while intoxicated following a crash that killed her passenger on Sunday, February 21.
Dawn Pierce was driving a 2007 Ford Edge southbound on Wading River Hollow Road when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree approximately 100 yards south of Scenic Hills Drive in Middle Island at 2:37 a.m.

Pierce’s front seat passenger, Jacqueline Grawunder, 24, of Yaphank, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Two backseat passengers, Alexander Rikimoto, 21, of Shirley, and Michael Rempe, 22, of Franklin Square, were transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Pierce, 21, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries. Pierce has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and will be arraigned at a later date.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
