You Shop. They Give. FMC Does a Random Kindness In Your Honor
(Long Island, NY) Now that it’s time to start shopping for the holidays, the Fair Media Council has created a way for you to do good with every purchase you make, and FMC will pay it forward. Here’s how.
By using this special link, you have access to hundreds of retailers, each of which will donate a portion of your purchases on goods, services and gift cards to the Fair Media Council, a 501c3 nonprofit organization since 1979. In return, FMC will commit a random act of kindness in your honor.
“What the world needs now is kindness,” said Fair Media Council CEO Jaci Clement, noting the news has brought a heaviness to the days leading up to the holidays. “Everyone wants a bright holiday, yet current events are showing us, more and more, just how much darkness there is in this world. That’s what inspired the creation of the Better World Campaign, and we hope everyone reading this will participate.”
The FMC Better World Campaign runs through Jan. 2, with an initial goal of raising $1500. Participating retailers will donate from 5-50 percent of purchases, and they include some of the best-known names and brands for everyone on your shopping list, including the family pets. Starbucks, Nordstrom, gapKids, Shutterfly, Nike, Old Navy and Barnes & Noble are among the most popular of retailers participating in the FMC Better World Campaign. Once you shop, a portion of your purchase will be donated from the retailer to FMC. You choose whether your donation is made in your personal name or your organization’s name. If you prefer, you may remain anonymous. (Remember, it doesn’t cost you a thing.) FMC will tell the stories of kindness that took place as the result of participating in the Better World Campaign on its website,www.fairmediacouncil.org.
Why shop to benefit the Fair Media Council? While the work of FMC is unlike any organization in the country, it focuses on advocating for quality local news to keep communities vibrant and competitive, and it works to create a media savvy society — something that becomes increasingly important as technology provides new and faster ways to deliver news to the public. Serving as the media watchdog for the New York metro area, it’s been said the most important part of the FMC’s mission is in ‘keeping the media honest.’
