(Long Island, NY) County Executive Bellone will be joined by Legislator Sarah Anker, Suffolk County Youth Bureau and Suffolk County Health Department Officials to announce initiatives to address bullying which include: awareness, development of online presence to provide valuable resources to those who need support, youth training, and middle and high school educational campaigns.
The event will take place on March 21, 2014 at 11:30am.
Bellone supported Legislator Anker’s legislation, which was passed unanimously at the March 18th General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature to launch a new bullying awareness website. The site will provide support and guidance for children who are or have been bullied. According to 2010 Bullying Statistics, 160,000 children miss school each day for fear of being bullied. As of July 1, 2012, the New York State Dignity Act mandates that all schools must designate a point person, known as a Dignity Act Coordinator (DAC), to assist students who feel that they are being bullied.
Among those speaking at the event will be County Executive Bellone, Legislator Sarah Anker, Roderick Pearson, Executive Director of the SC Youth Bureau, John Martin, SC Senior Public Health Educator, and Representatives of the Suffolk County Youth Board. It will be held at the H. Lee Dennison Building located at 100 Veterans Memorial Highway in Hauppauge, NY.
