(Hauppauge, NY) Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County Association of Municipal Employees (AME) President Dan Farrell today announced a tentative four-year labor agreement. The agreement must now be formalized into a Memorandum of Agreement which would be presented to the membership of AME and the Suffolk County Legislature, for ratification.
The agreement would:
- Cover a 4-year period (2013-2016);
- Provide additional job protections and modest raises for AME members, including a no-layoff clause for the life of the contract;
- Provide structural savings to Suffolk County by making new employees more affordable.
“I am optimistic that we can formalize this tentative agreement,” County Executive Bellone said. “This agreement is part of our efforts to work together with labor and continue to put our County on fiscally sound footing moving forward. I want to thank President Farrell and his negotiating team for their continued hard work and commitment to Suffolk County and its taxpayers.”
“This agreement contains raises and the strongest ever protections for AME members,” President Farrell said. “I want to thank County Executive Bellone for negotiating with us in good faith. AME understands the County’s difficult fiscal condition and we want to work together to be part of the solution.”
