(Huntington, NY) As part of her annual “Keep Huntington Beautiful” campaign, Councilwoman Susan A. Berland hosted a restoration and beautification event at the Old Burial Ground on Main Street in Huntington this past Saturday. Volunteers raked leaves, cleared branches and snipped away sticker bushes and other brush from the historic gravestones.
Participants included the Town of Huntington Cemetery Stewards, Town Historian Robert Hughes, members of the Huntington Youth Council and numerous other volunteers. Following the cleanup, volunteers were treated to pizza, courtesy of Little Vincent’s.
“I really enjoy the ‘Keep Huntington Beautiful’ events and this cleanup at the Old Burial Ground is a fall favorite,” commented Councilwoman Berland. “Everyone enjoys learning about the cemetery and doing their part to keep it preserved for years to come. I would like to thank our volunteers who dedicated their Saturday morning to restoring the Old Burial Ground and Little Vincent’s for providing the delicious pizza.”
