(Huntington, NY) Councilwoman Susan A. Berland partnered with the American Legion Post 1244 to host a restoration and beautification event at Long Swamp Cemetery on Barkley Lane in Huntington on November 16. Volunteers raked leaves, cleared logs and branches and snipped away sticker bushes and other brush from the historic gravestones.

Participants included the American Legion Post 1244, Town Historian Robert Hughes, members of the Huntington Youth Council, Cub Scout Troops and numerous other volunteers. Following the cleanup, volunteers were treated to pizza, courtesy of Spuntino.
“We had a great team of volunteers cleaning the Long Swamp Cemetery,” commented Councilwoman Berland. “A special thank you goes to Bob Santo, one of the Cemetery Stewards for Long Swamp, for his continued effort to keep this historic site clean. I would like to thank all of the volunteers who dedicated their Saturday morning to clear graves that date back to the Minutemen, rake numerous of bags of leaves and cut back and pull out all of the overgrowth that grew during the summer months. I would also like to thank Spuntino for providing the delicious pizza.”
