(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a bicyclist in North Amityville on Tuesday, September 15.
Thomas Cosma, 51, of Massapequa, was driving a 2002 Chrysler Voyager westbound on Sunrise Highway at Bayview Avenue when his vehicle struck a bicyclist who was crossing the roadway at 8:30 p.m.

The bicyclist, Xavier Royal, 20, of Amityville, was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
The vehicle was impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
