Candidates Commit to Lead City in New, Progressive Direction
(New York, NY) New York City Public Advocate and Democrat Bill de Blasio and City Council candidate Vince Morgan today announced their commitment to work together toward a stronger and more equitable New York City.
“From advocating for a tax on the wealthiest New Yorkers to pay for early education and after-school programs to fighting for a racial profiling ban, Bill de Blasio has shown time and time again that he is the true progressive candidate for mayor of New York City,” said City Council candidate Vince Morgan. “I’m running for City Council because I believe we need new, progressive leaders for New York City — and I know Bill is the progressive leader we need in City Hall next year.”

About Vince Morgan:
Vince Morgan is currently running for City Council in the 9th District, encompassing parts of the Upper West Side and Harlem. Morgan was chairman of the 125th Street Business Improvement District, led the charge to bring full transparency to the West Harlem Local Development Corporation, and is leading the effort to secure over $2 billion in contracts to minority, women and local businesses and 7,000 jobs promised in the Columbia expansion.
About Bill de Blasio:
Elected New York City’s Public Advocate in 2009, Bill de Blasio helped stop thousands of teacher layoffs and save good neighborhood schools that Mayor Bloomberg tried to close. De Blasio helped protect firehouses that were on the budget chopping block, and fought for just compensation for brave first responders who fell ill as a result of their heroic work in the days following 9/11. During his eight years on the City Council, de Blasio won new investments in early childhood education, and wrote landmark tenants’ rights legislation to protect affordable housing and end housing discrimination for everyday New Yorkers. De Blasio lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn, with his wife Chirlane McCray. De Blasio and Chirlane have two children, Chiara and Dante, both of whom have attended New York City public schools.
