(Deer Park, NY) State Senator Phil Boyle, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone and Suffolk County’s Department of Health will take another step toward combatting prescription drug and heroin abuse by hosting an opioid overdose prevention training class Tuesday evening at the Deer Park Fire Department. The class will teach laypeople how to recognize the signs of opioid overdose, what steps to take until EMS arrives, and how to administer the opioid overdose reversal drug Narcan.
“It is only through collaborative and bipartisan efforts that we will be able to arm our communities with the life-saving attributes of Naloxone,” said Senator Phil Boyle. “As we battle the heroin and opioid epidemic here on Long Island, this training class will be the inaugural effort between the State of New York and the County of Suffolk to begin training those who may find themselves in a position to make a difference between life and death.”
