(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police on Wednesday, May 20 arrested a Brentwood man for drug possession charges and owning and training roosters for the purpose of fighting following the execution of a search warrant at his home.
Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives, Narcotics Section detectives, Emergency Service Section officers, Third Precinct Patrol and Crime Section officers and officers from the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals executed a search warrant as part of a narcotics investigation at approximately 6 a.m. today.

During the search, cocaine and marijuana were discovered as well as 45 roosters that showed evidence of being trained for fighting.
Reynaldo Bonilla, 37, was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substances 4th Degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. Bonilla was also charged with Training an Animal to Fight, a felony under New York State Agricultural and Markets Law.
The roosters were removed from the property by SPCA officers.
Bonilla will be held overnight at the Third Precinct and arraigned tomorrow at First District Court in Central Islip.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
