(Long Island, NY) Members of the Brookhaven Democratic Town Committee released a letter today signed by a majority of its members endorsing David Calone for Congress in the 1st Congressional District.
The endorsement letter said the majority of the members “enthusiastically endorse” Dave because “We believe Dave Calone is the best person to represent CD1. Dave is a lifelong Democrat and activist. He was raised in Brookhaven and is raising his kids here. He knows how to create jobs in Suffolk County, and he has a distinguished record of protecting the environment as Chair of the Suffolk County Planning Commission. Dave is also a former federal prosecutor who has been a leader in fighting terrorism and fraud.”
Dave Calone said in response to the letter: “I’m honored to get such a strong endorsement from the heart of the Democratic Party here in Brookhaven. The values I learned growing up here are the reasons I’m running for Congress. We need strong leadership and a vision for the future, not the same pre-packaged Washington ideas. Lee Zeldin has spent a large part of his life running for office so he doesn’t know any other way. I’m not focused on doing things the DC way; I’m focused on how we create the next generation of jobs for our kids on Long Island. I’m focused on how improve access to education and stop the brain drain happening in our area. I’ve never run for office before, but I cannot sit on the sidelines and watch the likes of Congressman Zeldin and his Republican friends in Washington continue to ignore the needs and values of our families on Long Island. With the support of dedicated people like the Brookhaven Democrats, we can win this campaign and start getting Washington to work for us.”
The 1st Congressional District is comprised of the towns of Brookhaven, Smithtown, Shelter Island, Southampton, East Hampton, Riverhead and Southold. Brookhaven voters make-up approximately 60% of the voters in the district.
