(Long Island, NY) The Third Squad reports the arrest of a Brooklyn man for Grand Larceny on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 5:40 A.M. in Floral Park.
According to detectives, Floral Park Police officers in an unmarked vehicle observed Justin Kirlew, 18, operating a white Nissan eastbound on Jericho Turnpike in the vicinity of Van Buren Avenue.

The vehicle changed lanes without signaling and the officers attempted to perform a car stop after the vehicle turned southbound on Park Avenue. The vehicle refused to stop and attempted to evade police.
The vehicle lost control in the vicinity of Jericho Turnpike and S. 3rd Street in New Hyde Park, colliding with a parked vehicle and a tree. Kirlew fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later in the driveway of a 4th Street home with the assistance of Nassau County Police.
An investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen and a second suspect, described as a male black wearing a gray jacket and a gray hat, fled on foot westbound on Jericho Turnpike. During the arrest processing the defendant was found to be in possession of credit cards and wallets from larcenies which occurred in Elmont.
The investigation is ongoing.
Kirlew is charged with three counts of Grand Larceny 4th degree, Reckless Endangerment 2nd degree, Reckless Driving, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and several vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
