New blog features hot topics in education in New York and Connecticut
(Long Island, NY) The Northeast Charter Schools Network today announced the launch of Extra Credit: News and Views of the Northeast Charter Schools Network, a new blog featuring commentary, guest posts and multimedia content focused on sharing the real stories of public charter schools in New York and Connecticut.
Parents, students, teachers and school leaders will discuss the work going on in the classroom and the impact these schools have on lives and communities. Extra Credit will also include analysis, commentary and responses to legislative developments and charter news from NECSN staff and guest posters.
Northeast Charter Schools Network CEO Kyle Rosenkrans said, “The people in charter schools aren’t a bunch of faceless corporate reformers, despite what our foes would have you believe. This blog will feature the real people in the charter movement- families, children, and educators. Charter schools in New York and Connecticut are changing lives — and we need to make sure their stories are heard.”
Today on the blog:
Bob Bellafiore, who has worked in and around New York government for 30 years — and with the state’s charter schools since their inception — longs for politicians who are “intellectually fortified” and says many of today’s “progressives” are holding down the very people they claim to work for.
NECSN Interim NYS Director Andrea Rogers details the good, bad and ugly for charter schools in her critical analysis of the Senate and Assembly’s budget proposals.
And with so many charters faced with budgets with no wiggle room, find out what happened when a little girl at a Bronx charter school wished for laptops at her school.
Extra Credit will also feature The Grade a podcast that will educate listeners on the origin of charter schools, share advice and tips for schools, and cover the current happenings and hot topics in the news and in the charter world. The podcast will launch later this month.
