(Long Island. NY) The 4th Annual North Fork Waiter Race resulted in a 1st , 2nd and 3rd place victory by Claudio’s Restaurant and Claudio’s Clam Bar. Hosted by The Market, located at 44 Front Street, Greenport, this fun fast-paced event was held rain or shine. The Waiter Race celebrates the entire North Fork hospitality industry. This year it also celebrates Eastern Long Island Hospital’s 110th Anniversary and the Fitness Challenge.
The rules were simple. Participants raced to the finish line by walking as fast as possible while balancing a stemmed wine glass filled with a beverage on a serving tray. The liquid contents of each glass was provided by beverage event sponsor Essentia Water.

“As the owner of a health food market since 1987, I believe we can all be our ‘best’ through good nutrition and regular exercise,” says Shelley Scoggin. “I invite everyone to get involved. The event is fun for both participants and spectators. We are very fortunate to have ELIH at the heart of our community, providing top-rated care.”
The Great Waiter Race is based on a traditional race that began in Paris in 1904 to recognize the hospitality industry. The concept has grown in popularity since its early beginnings. Races now take place in more than 750 cosmopolitan cities around the world. (www.waitersrace.com)
Participants were encouraged to raise funds and get sponsors in addition to their $50 entry fee. All monies raised were divided between Eastern Long Island Hospital and the winners of the race. Proceeds benefited health and wellness activities at Eastern Long Island Hospital.
