(Long Island, NY) County Executive Edward P. Mangano and Acting Police Commissioner Thomas C. Krumpter will be holding a ceremony to unveil a plaque dedicated by the Police Benevolent Association to honor former Police Commissioner Francis B. Looney. The ceremony will take place on Friday March 21, 2014, at 11:00 AM in the Donald F. Kane Auditorium at Police Headquarters.
Francis Looney served as Commissioner from 1966 to 1971. He is credited with implementing numerous modernizing initiatives for the Department, including hiring the first female police officers, purchasing the first helicopter and computers, and establishing a community relations bureau.
